Belgian used electric car sales surge 66% as battery health proves robust

In April, sales of second‑hand electric cars in Belgium rose by 66% compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the mobility federation Traxio, which recorded 13,900 registrations versus 9,552 previously. Specialists note that used EV batteries are holding up better than feared, with median state‑of‑health scores around 85% for eight‑to‑nine‑year‑old vehicles and a typical wear of 1–1.5% per year. Buyers are advised to request a State of Health test, costing about €150, to verify remaining capacity.

Meanwhile, the Dutch home‑energy storage market saw 5,152 new batteries registered in May, a rise from earlier months. Net operators reported an average monthly addition of 3,700 batteries over the past six months, with the bulk of capacity coming from installations of 5–15 kW. Total registered storage systems now exceed 50,000 units, representing over 750 MW of capacity. Larger installations (15 kW–1 MW) saw a decline in new registrations, while smaller systems continued to grow.

Both trends highlight expanding demand for battery solutions across the Benelux region, driven by higher fuel prices, leasing returns, and incentives for residential energy storage.
