Belgium advises against overnight e-bike battery charging

The Belgian government, through the FOD Economie, is advising e-bike owners against charging batteries overnight. This precaution is intended to mitigate the risk of overheating and potential fires caused by lithium-ion cells.

Authorities recommend that charging should only occur when someone is present to monitor the process. To ensure safety, users are advised to use original chargers or those specifically recommended by the manufacturer. Additionally, batteries should be charged on a stable, non-flammable surface in a well-ventilated area, away from combustible materials and extreme heat. Bosch further suggests storing batteries in a dry location at approximately 20 degrees Celsius.
