Belgium leads Europe in daily commuting time
According to an international survey by HR specialist SD Worx involving 16,000 employees across 15 European countries and the UK, Belgian workers now spend an average of 61 minutes per day commuting. This figure is the highest among the surveyed nations and exceeds the international average of 48 minutes.
While the Netherlands reports higher percentages of employees traveling distances over 120 kilometers, Belgium's issue is the time required to cover those distances. The Belgian average has surpassed the psychological threshold of 57 minutes, which employees consider the maximum acceptable commuting time.
Data shows that 13% of Belgian employees commute for two hours or more daily, the highest proportion in the study. In contrast, countries like Italy and Slovenia report much lower averages, at 35 and 32 minutes respectively. Globally, South Korea leads with an average commute of 108 minutes.
