Belgium raises fuel taxes, heating oil and gas prices to jump in August

Starting 31 July 2026 the Belgian Federal Public Service Economy will raise the official maximum price for heating oil (mazout) by up to €83.30 per 1,000 L, with a slightly lower increase for mazout H0/H7. The same pricing shift applies from 1 August 2026 when excise duties on natural gas and heating oil are increased, a measure intended to curb fossil‑fuel consumption.

At the same time, excise taxes on electricity are reduced, giving a typical household an estimated saving of about €12.60 per year. The government has also ended the energy aid programme that was introduced in April, and no further support is planned if energy prices rise again.
