Belgium reports high US tourist spending and $536.8 billion in imports

Recent economic data highlights significant trends in Belgium’s tourism and trade sectors. According to payment service provider Worldline, US tourists were the largest foreign spenders in Belgium during the summer period between late June and late August. American visitors accounted for 23.5% of all foreign spending recorded in the country, reaching a peak of 42.7% of foreign payments in Brussels. While Americans led in total volume, Austrian tourists recorded the highest average spending per transaction at €127.

In terms of international trade, Belgium’s imports reached a value of $536.8 billion in 2025, representing a 3.4% increase from the previous year. The Netherlands remains the primary supplier, accounting for 19.9% of total imports, followed by Germany at 12.2% and France at 10%. The United States is the fourth largest supplier, contributing 7.3% of the country's imported goods. Approximately 62.8% of all Belgian imports originated from within the European Union.
