Belgian and Dutch highways face extensive summer road works

A series of road works are scheduled across Belgium and the Netherlands during the summer of 2026, causing temporary closures, detours and traffic restrictions.

In Belgium, the Broodseinde roundabout in Zonnebuke will be fully closed from 18‑21 August for resurfacing and side‑street upgrades. Major highway projects include extensive maintenance on the E17 and E19 corridors, with significant disruptions expected at interchanges in Machelen, Rumst, Zwijnaarde, and between Destelbergen and Gentbrugge throughout August and September. Additional local changes affect the priority rules at the Oostendestraat – Karel de Ghelderelaan junction and a new Durmebrug (N446) replacement in Waasmunster will start on 13 August, with phased traffic diversions.

In the Netherlands, Rijkswaterstaat will carry out large‑scale upgrades on the A32 between Steenwijk and Heerenveen (June‑October), new wear layers on numerous municipal roads in Berkelland (6‑9 July), and a widening of the A27 between Gorinchem and Everdingen (closed until 3 August). The A7 near Winschoten to the German border will see night‑time closures and a 2‑0 traffic system from 6‑21 July, while the N362 in Groningen is temporarily shut after unsafe speeds during storm‑damage cleanup. The A7 works also include bridge repairs and temporary lane reductions.

These coordinated projects aim to improve road safety, surface durability and service‑area capacity, but motorists should expect extra travel time and follow posted detours.
