Belgium sees 38.6% rise in care mandates

In the first half of 2026, Belgium saw a 38.6% increase in the number of care mandates established compared to the same period in 2025. According to data from the Federation of Notaries (Fednot), a total of 92,026 mandates were concluded.

Flanders accounted for the vast majority of these arrangements, representing 91% of the national total with 83,787 mandates. Wallonia recorded 5,717 mandates, while the Brussels-Capital Region saw 2,522. These legal instruments allow individuals to make preventive arrangements for asset management and care planning in the event they become incapacitated due to illness or accident.
