Belgorod casualties rise following large-scale Ukrainian drone strikes

A series of large-scale Ukrainian drone attacks across various Russian regions has resulted in significant civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. In the Belgorod region, local authorities reported that a night drone strike killed five people and injured 25 others, with some victims being children. The attacks caused fires in multi-story residential buildings and damaged dozens of residential blocks and vehicles.

In addition to the strikes in Belgorod, reports indicate intense drone activity targeting industrial and energy infrastructure. This includes a fire at the Ilsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar Krai caused by falling drone debris, which left five people injured. Other industrial targets in the Samara region were also reportedly struck.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed its air defense systems intercepted hundreds of drones, including 397 in a single night, marking one of the largest aerial assaults since the start of the conflict. These sustained strikes highlight a continuing strategy of targeting Russia's petroleum sector and industrial capacity far from the immediate front lines.
