Belgrade metro project advances with LOT 3 contract signing

A contract has been signed for the design and execution of LOT 3, the final phase of the first line of the Belgrade metro project. The agreement was signed in Belgrade by Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević, the acting director of Belgrade Metro and Train Andreja Mladenović, and Yang Fan representing the Chinese company Powerchina.

This phase covers a section of approximately 15.4 kilometers, including about 11 kilometers of underground tunnels. Two specialized Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), manufactured by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited in Changsha, are currently en route to the Port of Constanta in Romania. They are expected to arrive there by the end of October before being transported via the Danube to Belgrade.

Each TBM is 110 meters long, weighs 1,500 tons, and has a head diameter of 9.7 meters. Construction work at the launch sites in Belgrade is scheduled to begin in September. The contract includes a 60-month deadline for the completion of the works within this phase.
