Belgrade metro construction project development
Overview
The Belgrade metro project has reached a new milestone with the signing of a contract for the design and execution of Lot 3, the final phase of the first line. The agreement was signed by Serbian officials and representatives from the Chinese company Powerchina.
Lot 3 involves approximately 15.4 kilometers of work, including 11 kilometers of underground tunnels. The scope encompasses station and shaft completion, mechanical and electrical installations, elevators, escalators, and landscaping. Key locations mentioned include Banovo brdo Park, Ada Ciganlija, Republic Square, and the Danube.
To facilitate construction, two 1,500-ton Tunnel Boring Machines manufactured by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited are being transported from China to Belgrade via the Port of Constanta in Romania.
The contract establishes a 60-month deadline for completion. While construction at launch sites was scheduled to begin in September, experts suggest that if work commences next year, the project could be completed around 2032 or 2033 due to the potential for unforeseen interventions.
