Belgrade removes Staklenac market to clear site for first metro line

City manager Miroslav Čučković announced that the temporary market known as Staklenac (Trg Republike) will be dismantled as the city enters the final phase of compensating stall owners, to make way for construction of the first line of the Belgrade metro.

In the same phase, the Bajlonija market (officially Skadarlija) will be temporarily relocated, with plans to rebuild it in a modern form after the metro works, including an alternative location near Linijski park in the Dunavska area. No detailed design has been released yet.
