Belgrade signs metro construction contract with Power China
A contract has been signed between Belgrade and the Chinese company Power China for the design and execution of works on Lot 3 of the first phase of the Belgrade metro's first line. The contract specifies a 60-month timeframe for the completion of all works.
Lot 3 includes the completion of stations and shafts following tunnel machine passage, key tunnel sections spanning from Požeška Street through Banovo brdo Park, Ada Ciganlija, and the Fairground to the Mostarska loop, Savski trg, Republic Square, Skadarlija, and the Danube. The scope also covers mechanical and electrical installations, escalators, elevators, station area landscaping, and testing.
Traffic engineer Dušan Milanović noted that while the five-year period is the most realistic timeline presented to the public so far, such large-scale projects often face unforeseen interventions that can extend construction. If work begins next year, completion could be expected around 2032 or 2033. The first phase of the first line includes 11 underground stations at depths of 10 to over 30 meters and three surface stations in Makiško polje.
