Belinda Balluku: SPAK seizes luxury villa amid corruption probe

The Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Structure (SPAK) has deepened its investigation into former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, uncovering new criminal charges and seizing assets. Balluku faces allegations of passive corruption, money laundering, and the concealment or non-declaration of assets.

Investigators have seized a luxury villa in the Green Coast complex in Palasë, which is suspected to be Balluku’s actual property despite being registered under the name of Igli Tare. SPAK alleges that the villa was obtained as a bribe from businessman Arbër Abazi, owner of Alko Impex General Construction. Abazi reportedly invested between 288,000 and 410,000 euros to complete the property after his company was declared the winner of a tender for Lot 7 of the Tirana Outer Ring Road, a project with a budget exceeding 2.3 billion lek.

The investigation also encompasses eight other procurement procedures, including the construction of the Llogara Tunnel and various segments of the Tirana Outer Ring Road. Democratic Party leader Gazment Bardhi has called for the removal of Balluku’s parliamentary immunity to facilitate her arrest as the legal situation intensifies.
