Belize advances Electronic Single Window for Trade initiative

Belize has reached a milestone in its Electronic Single Window for Trade (ESW) initiative following a four-day Knowledge Exchange Mission with the Jamaica Customs Agency. The mission aimed to gain practical insights from Jamaica’s established Single Window for Trade (JSWIFT) system to accelerate Belize’s digital trade transformation.

The project is part of the Trade and Investment Facilitation Program, a loan program for the Government of Belize financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and executed through the Ministry of Finance. The initiative seeks to modernize and digitalize trade and border processes, improve government efficiency, and strengthen national competitiveness through better coordination among various agencies.

The Belize delegation included technical team members from the Directorate General for Foreign Trade, the Belize Customs and Excise Department, the Belize Agricultural Health Authority, the Central Information Technology Office, and the Ministry of Finance. Other participating entities include the Belize Fisheries Department, the Ministry of Health, and the Supplies Control Unit.
