Honduras and Belize meet to strengthen bilateral cooperation
Honduran President Nasry Asfura and Belizean Prime Minister John Briceño met in Tegucigalpa to strengthen bilateral relations and explore strategic cooperation. The high-level meeting focused on several key areas, including public health, national security, trade, investment, and education.
A significant portion of the discussions centered on regional connectivity and economic integration. Both leaders addressed the potential for a new trade agreement to boost local economies and discussed aviation connectivity, specifically through the implementation of ‘open skies’ policies and Belize’s involvement with the Central American Air Navigation Services Corporation (Cocesna).
The meeting also touched upon regional stability and the role of the Central American Integration System (SICA), noting that Belize will hold the SICA Pro Tempore Presidency during the second half of 2026. Additionally, the leaders highlighted the importance of addressing climate change as a shared regional challenge.
