Belluno police recover 4,000 euros after man scatters cash in street

An Iraqi refugee living in Belluno, Italy, was observed scattering 50-euro banknotes along Via Tiziano Vecellio during rush hour on August 5. The man was carrying a small briefcase from which he dispersed the cash without apparent concern.

Police intervened and recovered a total of 4,000 euros, consisting of 80 authentic 50-euro notes. While some motorists initially suspected the currency might be counterfeit, authorities confirmed its legitimacy. The man, who has resided in Belluno since 2022, was unable to provide clear information regarding the origin of the money due to communication difficulties.

No reports of theft or lost property were filed. After the police held the funds for several days to allow a potential owner to claim them, the money was ultimately handed over to the Municipality of Belluno.
