Belém offers up to 100% property tax discount for historic buildings

The City of Belém has launched an initiative to encourage the conservation of historical buildings by offering property tax (IPTU) discounts of up to 100% for the 2027 tax year. The program targets listed properties, those of preservation interest, or buildings included in the Department of Historical Heritage (DEPH) inventories, particularly within the Historic Center and designated protection areas.

Discounts are not automatic and depend on technical inspections of architectural characteristics and conservation status. Buildings with full architectural preservation may receive a total exemption. Those classified under partial preservation or architectural reconstitution can receive up to a 75% reduction, while buildings in the monitoring category may receive up to a 10% reduction.

Eligible applicants include owners, tenants, or legally authorized representatives. Requests must be submitted online through the Siat/Sefin electronic process system by selecting the ‘Isenção Fumbel’ subject and attaching the required documentation in PDF format.
