Belém historical building tax incentive program
Overview
The City of Belém has introduced a program to promote the conservation of historical buildings by offering property tax (IPTU) discounts for the 2027 tax year.
Discounts are tiered based on technical inspections of a building’s architectural characteristics and conservation status. Properties with full architectural preservation may qualify for a total exemption, while those under partial preservation or architectural reconstitution can receive up to a 75% reduction. Buildings in the monitoring category are eligible for up to a 10% reduction.
The initiative targets listed properties, those of preservation interest, or buildings in the Department of Historical Heritage (DEPH) inventories, specifically within the Historic Center and designated protection areas. Eligible applicants, including owners or tenants, must submit requests through the Siat/Sefin electronic process system.
