Belém plastic surgery death triggers investigation and new allegations

An investigation has been launched following the death of 29-year-old Giovanna Coelho, who died after undergoing plastic surgery in Belém, Brazil. Her family reports that the procedure, which included lipoescultura and abdominoplasty, lasted significantly less time than the estimated 10 hours, and that the patient suffered four cardiac arrests before passing away.

The family has accused surgeon André Santana Melo of failing to provide explanations or support during the medical emergency. The Regional Medical Council of Pará (CRM-PA) has opened a formal procedure to investigate the circumstances of the death.

Following the publicization of the case, several other women have contacted the family and legal team to report similar complications during their post-operative periods after procedures performed by the same surgeon. Legal representatives are now seeking to organize these reports to potentially pursue a collective criminal complaint with the Civil Police.
