Belmonte Mezzagno holds funerals for two victims of Monte Erice race
The community of Belmonte Mezzagno gathered to hold funerals for Giuseppe Bisconti, 18, and Karol Greco, 20, who were killed after being struck by a vehicle during the Monte Erice hillclimb event on September 6.
Archbishop of Palermo Corrado Lorefice presided over the service at the Church Madre in Piazza Garibaldi. During his homily, Lorefice described the deaths as an “immense tragedy” and expressed the collective grief of the entire community and the Archdiocese of Palermo. He emphasized that the loss of the two young men was a shared pain, stating, “Your pain is truly great. We make it our own.”
The funeral was attended by local officials, including the Mayor of Valderice, Francesco Stabile, and representatives from various local administrations. The event was marked by a large, silent crowd mourning the two spectators who were killed during the sporting competition.
