Brazil requires risk warnings on all betting advertisements
From 17 July 2024, Brazil’s federal government mandated that every advertisement by authorized sports‑betting and online‑gaming platforms must display a clear risk‑warning covering at least 10 % of the ad space. The required messages, issued by the Ministry of Finance, are: “Apostar pode causar dependência”, “Apostar faz você perder dinheiro” and “Aposta não é investimento”.
The rules also prohibit ads that present betting as an investment, promise easy profit, or target children and adolescents. They extend responsibility to influencers, content creators and any media that disseminates betting promotions. Non‑compliant operators can face administrative sanctions. The regulations were published in two inter‑ministerial ordinances covering the Ministries of Finance, Justice, Public Security and the Secretariat of Communication, and form part of a broader effort to tighten oversight of the quota‑fixed betting market.
