Belo Horizonte carnival dates debated as samba schools propose shift for 2027
A proposal from the Liga das Escolas de Samba de Minas Gerais, representing nine of the city’s thirteen samba schools, seeks to move the main parade days of the 2027 Belo Horizonte carnival from February 8‑9 to February 12‑14. The change, still under review by the municipal tourism agency Belotur, is argued to reduce competition with Rio and São Paulo parades and with the city’s own street bloc schedule, allowing a dedicated three‑day "Carnaval de Passarela" for samba schools and related workers.
Separately, the Império de Casa Verde samba school released its 2027 theme, "Sob o céu do interior, brilha o sonho caipira – Jaguariúna: a Capital Country do Brasil," composed by a team of local musicians. The school will open the second night of the Grupo Especial on February 6 at the Anhembi Sambódromo, with mayor Davi Neto of Jaguariúna and artistic director Fábio Ricardo highlighting the celebration of the city’s cultural heritage.
