Belo Horizonte solar installations surge as electricity bills climb

Rising electricity tariffs in Belo Horizonte have turned solar photovoltaic systems into a financially attractive option for households and businesses. With some of the highest utility rates in Brazil, the payback period for a well‑designed residential system has shortened to three to five years, after which the generated power yields decades of net savings. The Solar 4.0 company, active since 2020, reports more than 300 installations in the Greater Belo Horizonte area and highlights that a properly sized project can cut electricity bills by up to 90 % through net‑metering credits.

Experts stress that the actual savings depend on correct roof orientation, shading, equipment quality and professional engineering design. They advise consumers to assess their current electricity bill and to engage firms that provide engineered projects signed by an electrical engineer and that handle the mandatory utility interconnection. "Muita gente ainda pensa na energia solar como um gasto, quando na verdade é o contrário," said Solar 4.0’s technical team, adding that the higher the current bill, the faster the investment is recovered. "Quanto maior o valor que a pessoa paga hoje, maior o benefício e mais rápido o retorno," the team concluded.
