Belvedere Marittimo hosts project launch for Sant’Angelo d’Acri pilgrimage route

A new religious pilgrimage project, titled ‘Sui passi dei Santi: verso il Cammino di Sant’Angelo d’Acri’, is being proposed to promote Calabria’s religious heritage and cultural tourism. The initiative, organized by Fondazione Rinascita and UNPLI Cosenza, focuses on the spiritual connection between San Daniele Fasanella, the patron of Belvedere Marittimo, and Sant’Angelo d’Acri.

The proposed itinerary highlights the historical significance of the Convento di San Daniele in Belvedere, where Luca Antonio Falcone, the future Sant’Angelo, began his novitiate in 1690. The route also aims to include Cetraro, where Sant’Angelo performed his final Lenten preaching, and San Marco Argentano, which maintains strong Franciscan traditions.

The project seeks to link sites of memory, foster dialogue between local communities, and potentially establish cultural twinning between the involved municipalities. An official meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for October 17, 2026, at the Museo del Mare in Belvedere Marittimo.
