Religious pilgrimage initiatives in Italy

Overview

Various religious pilgrimage projects and community celebrations are being organized across different Italian regions to promote cultural heritage and spiritual connection.

In Calabria, the ‘Sui passi dei Santi: verso il Cammino di Sant’Angelo d’Acri’ project, proposed by Fondazione Rinascita and UNPLI Cosenza, aims to link sites such as Belvedere Marittimo, Cetraro, and San Marco Argentano to highlight the historical significance of Sant’Angelo d’Acri.

In the Cilento region, the Diocese of Vallo della Lucania’s ‘Peregrinatio Mariae’ initiative has progressed. Led by Bishop Vincenzo Calvosa, the movement of the Madonna del Sacro Monte di Novi Velia has begun its journey through the Cilento territory, starting in Sacco. This initiative is scheduled to continue through spring 2027 to renew Marian faith.

Other regional religious observances include celebrations for the Madonna della Neve in Torre Annunziata, featuring historical reenactments and a commemorative photographic book. In Gimigliano, Archbishop Claudio Maniago officially granted the city the title of ‘Civitas Mariae’ in recognition of its devotion to the Madonna di Porto. Additionally, the parishes of Casalmaggiore renewed a historical vow to the Madonna della Fontana, and the Germoglio di Speranza community in Mazara del Vallo inaugurated its 2026-2027 year.
