Bengaluru birthday party rape: five men arrested

A 25‑year‑old woman was lured to a belated birthday celebration on June 30 in the Talaghattapura area of Bengaluru. Police say she was given a soft drink spiked with sedatives by a cab driver, identified as J Amaresh, and was subsequently raped while four other men watched.

The victim, a resident of Devanahalli, filed a complaint the following day. Investigators arrested all five suspects – Amaresh, the party organizer Somashekar (also known as Somu Rathod), who works for a security agency, and three additional men – and placed them in judicial custody. The accused claim the intercourse was consensual, a claim police are verifying. The case remains under investigation.
