Bengaluru faces infrastructure challenges with potholes and metro disruptions

Bengaluru is facing significant infrastructure challenges, including a persistent pothole crisis and frequent transit disruptions. Despite promises from Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda to improve urban quality of life, commuters continue to face safety risks on damaged roads. Experts note that while Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for road repairs exist, implementation and enforcement remain inadequate.

In addition to road issues, the Namma Metro network recorded 15 technical disruptions between September 2025 and July 2026. These failures spanned signalling, train-control, rolling-stock, and power systems. The Green Line reported six incidents, the Purple Line five, and the Yellow Line four. In response to major service disruptions, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) coordinates with the BMTC to deploy alternative bus services, though no mandatory guarantee for free feeder services has been established.
