Bengaluru man arrested for staging kidnapping to extort ransom

A 40-year-old man from Bengaluru, identified as Manish, was arrested after staging his own kidnapping to extort Rs 90 lakh from his father, Manoharlal Patel.

The incident began when Manish left his home in the Vijayanagar area, claiming he was traveling to Gadag for a financial transaction. Shortly after, his father received WhatsApp calls and photographs showing Manish tied to a chair, with the callers demanding a ransom of Rs 9 million.

Following a police investigation, officers tracked the victim's mobile location to a room in the Hassan district, approximately 180km from Bengaluru. Upon arrival, police found Manish sleeping in the room with two other individuals. Interrogation revealed the kidnapping was a hoax intended to deceive his father. The RR Nagar police have arrested three people in connection with the case, and the suspects have been sent to Parappana Agrahara jail.
