Bengaluru to host Freedom Habba 2026 festival at Vidhana Soudha
Bengaluru is set to host 'Freedom Habba 2026', a citizen-led festival at the Vidhana Soudha to celebrate Independence Day on August 15. Announced by Urban Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, the event aims to promote community participation and celebrate the city’s diversity under the theme 'Namma Ooru. Nimma Ooru. Nammellara Bengaluru'.
The festivities will run from 12 noon until 10 pm, following the official parade at Manekshaw Parade Ground. The program includes nearly 40 cultural contingents showcasing Karnataka’s folk traditions, food stalls, craft markets, a living museum, and a Constitution Square. The evening will conclude with a synchronized light and laser show alongside fireworks.
As part of the initiative, children and their parents will receive free entry to the Vidhana Soudha. The festival includes educational activities designed for younger generations, such as guided tours, quizzes, storytelling competitions, and creative workshops focused on India’s freedom struggle. Students interested in the free program are required to register in advance.
