El Saler forest fire forces evacuations in Valencia

A major forest fire has broken out in the Devesa del Saler, located within the Albufera Natural Park near Valencia, Spain. The fire, which originated in the Gola de Pujol area, has prompted authorities to elevate the emergency level to situation 2 of the Special Forest Fire Plan (PEIF).

Significant evacuations have been ordered for the town of El Saler, nearby campsites, and a residential tower. The local beach has also been cleared of people. To facilitate the movement of residents, the Valencia City Council has deployed EMT buses, and emergency shelters have been established at La Fonteta and Alquería del Basket. Approximately 150 people have been evacuated.

Emergency response efforts include the deployment of the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) from Bétera and at least ten aerial resources, including eight from the Generalitat and two from the Ministry for Ecological Transition. The CV-500 road has been closed in both directions to manage safety and traffic.

Initial estimates suggest the fire has burned at least 48 hectares. Officials remain concerned as the arrival of 'poniente' winds may decrease humidity and potentially push the flames toward the sea. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area and follow all emergency instructions.
