Overview

In late August 2026, Spain experienced significant forest fires in different regions.

In Almería, a blaze in the municipality of Las Tres Villas destroyed approximately 200 hectares of land, including scrubland and woodland. The fire caused the evacuation of nine residents and the confinement of eight others. It also impacted infrastructure, affecting a wind farm, blocking roads, and interrupting railway services between Abla-Abrucena and Doña María-Ocaña for two days.

Following this, a major fire broke out in the Devesa del Saler within the Albufera Natural Park near Valencia. This incident prompted authorities to elevate the emergency level to situation 2 of the Special Forest Fire Plan. Approximately 150 people were evacuated from El Saler, nearby campsites, and a residential tower. Emergency response efforts included the deployment of the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) and aerial resources. Officials expressed concern that 'poniente' winds could decrease humidity and push flames toward the sea.
