Tourism sectors adopt digital and sustainable strategies

Various regions are implementing digital and sustainable strategies to modernize their tourism sectors. In Spain, Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu highlighted the strategic role of Salamanca in sustainable tourism, noting a 3.5 million euro investment in the Salamanca Cathedral to improve visitor experiences. Additionally, Benidorm is advancing its digital transformation through the ‘Benidorm DTI Integra con la PID’ project, utilizing 3.1 million euros in EU funds to connect local technological platforms with national infrastructure to improve data-driven decision-making and visitor management.

In Ourense, the provincial government has launched ‘Ourense, cerca de ti,’ featuring ‘O Afiador,’ an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to help tourists plan visits, dining, and accommodation. Benitachell has also launched an accessible digital tourism portal focused on inclusivity and real-time updates. Meanwhile, in Goya, Argentina, municipal authorities are working to strengthen the city’s tourism profile through public-private partnerships and year-round event programming to stimulate the local economy.

Cultural events also continue to drive tourism, such as the upcoming 16th anniversary of Benidorm Pride, which is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors.
