Benjamin Netanyahu's expansion rhetoric heightens Middle East tensions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting that Israel has secured legitimacy to remain along the "yellow line" in southern Lebanon, signalling a shift toward a permanent security presence to curb Hezbollah and other Iranian‑backed groups. The statement frames the "yellow line" as a broader strategic doctrine rather than a temporary cease‑fire boundary.

In a separate commentary, Netanyahu’s call for a "Greater Israel" that could extend into parts of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia drew little public reaction from the Muslim world. The editorial notes the absence of protests or strong statements, attributing it to political repression, fragmented leadership, and waning public trust. It also references the ongoing Gaza conflict, which has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians.
