Benue Governor announces educational upgrades and industrial revival plans

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced several initiatives aimed at upgrading educational institutions and boosting the state's agricultural and industrial sectors. During a statewide tour, the Governor revealed plans to upgrade the Agricultural Training Centre in Mbatie into a higher institution dedicated to training agricultural extension workers. This move is intended to improve farm productivity by equipping personnel to teach modern farming techniques and innovations to rural communities.

Additionally, the Governor plans to upgrade the College of Education, Oju, into a more standard institution. To support the state's economy, Alia also disclosed plans to revive the Igumale Cement factory following expert assessments. He emphasized the development of an agro-industrial value chain, citing existing investments like Taraku Mills and the Food Basket Brewery as part of a strategy to create sustainable markets for farmers and reduce post-harvest losses.

Regarding infrastructure and security, the administration committed to completing the Oju-Awajir road and maintained a firm stance on land use, stating that Benue land will not be ceded for ranching to ensure it remains available for farming.
