Benue State agricultural and industrial development
Overview
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has introduced a series of initiatives focused on educational upgrades and the revitalization of the state’s industrial and agricultural sectors. Initial plans included upgrading the Agricultural Training Centre in Mbatie into a higher institution for training extension workers, as well as upgrading the College of Education, Oju. The administration also expressed intent to revive the Igumale Cement factory and complete the Oju-Awajir road.
To support the state’s economy and food security, the government is prioritizing an agro-industrial value chain. This includes the revival of Taraku Mills, which has commenced test runs to provide farmers with reliable markets and reduce post-harvest losses. In support of these efforts, experts have advocated for increased investment in specialized post-harvest storage facilities through Public-Private Partnerships to ensure sustainable food security.
