Benue State herders behead health worker in Ikobi, Nigeria

Suspected armed herders ambushed and killed Ojoma Emie, a health officer and patent‑medicine seller, on Monday as he travelled between Ikobi and Ugbokpo in Benue State. The attack occurred at Ugbobi Junction, where the assailants beheaded him and fled with his head. Residents described the spot as a notorious ambush point and expressed fear that travel on local roads has become unsafe.

Local officials, including the vice‑president of the Ikobi Progressive Forum and the chairman of the local government, condemned the killing and called on security agencies to intervene. The state command spokesperson had not yet received a report. The incident follows a pattern of similar attacks by suspected herders in the Apa Local Government Area.

The community is demanding urgent protection measures as the brutality of the murder underscores escalating insecurity in the region.
