Berlin authorities investigate suspected antisemitic attacks in Kreuzberg

Berlin State Security is investigating a series of attacks against a 67-year-old shop owner in the Kreuzberg district. The victim, who uses a wheelchair, was repeatedly targeted by groups of youths.

The incidents began on October 7, the anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel, when approximately six youths allegedly insulted and sprayed the man with pepper spray. On October 8, a similar group reportedly attacked him again with pepper spray and physical violence after he called for help. On the evening of October 9, witnesses reported up to eight youths on e-scooters kicking and striking the shop's entrance door, causing damage.

Authorities are investigating a possible antisemitic motive, as the shop owner had displayed posters in his window protesting antisemitism in connection with the October 7, 2023, attacks. Police are investigating charges of dangerous bodily harm, insult, and property damage.
