Berlin launches major senior housing project and €2 billion bridge upgrades

A new residential development called the Chaussee Residenz Glienicke is under construction at the corner of Oranienburger Chaussee (B96) and Straße Am Sandkrug in Glienicke/Nordbahn. The project will provide 60 barrier‑free apartments for older residents together with community spaces and a day‑care facility, aiming to support independent living for seniors.

At the same time, Berlin is undertaking a city‑wide program to modernise its bridge network, with more than 17 projects costing over €2 billion. The works include the replacement of historic structures such as the Wollankstraße railway overpass (built 1901), the demolition and widening of the Lange Brücke in Köpenick, the merging of two Hellersdorf bridges into a single wide crossing, and the construction of the new Rhenania Bridge to connect the island Gartenfeld. Several projects are set to begin in 2026, improving road, rail, tram and pedestrian infrastructure across the capital.
