Berlin pushes Olympic bid with detailed 'BERLIN+' presentation to German sports federations

The city of Berlin, together with the states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern and Saxony, presented its detailed Olympic concept “BERLIN+” to more than 30 German sport federation representatives and officials from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) on Friday. Mayor Kai Wegner and Sports Senator Iris Spranger led the presentation at the Red City Hall and then at the Olympiastadion, joined by former mayors Klaus Wowereit and Michael Müller and Olympians such as Natascha Keller, Ronald Rauhe, Elena Semechin and Kristina Vogel. Forty children and youths formally handed the concept to the DOSB delegates.

The bid targets selection as Germany’s candidate for the 2036, 2040 or 2044 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the DOSB decision scheduled for 26 September. Planned venues include existing sports facilities, a possible gold‑medal ceremony at the Brandenburg Gate and an opening ceremony on the Tempelhofer Feld. Projected costs total €4.8 billion against anticipated revenues of €5.2 billion. Berlin’s bid follows a similar presentation in Munich; rival German candidates include the Rhein‑Ruhr region, while Hamburg has withdrawn after a failed referendum.
