Beringen ATM explosion forces evacuation of 13 people

In the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, an ATM was detonated by explosives in Beringen, Switzerland. The explosion caused a fire in the adjacent building, leading to the evacuation of 13 residents. No injuries have been reported.

The suspects fled the scene in a black vehicle. Due to the use of explosives, the investigation is being led by the Swiss Federal Prosecutor, with assistance from Fedpol, the Swiss Customs and Border Security, and local police forces. The blast caused significant damage to the building, which also houses a veterinary practice that has been forced to close temporarily due to smoke.

This incident follows a similar attempted ATM explosion in the region in late September. Authorities noted that Switzerland is frequently targeted by such attacks due to its high density of ATMs.
