Bernard Cazeneuve Announces Bid for 2027 French Presidency

Former French prime minister Bernard Cazeneuve said his "objective is to become president of the Republic" if the political circumstances are favourable. He reiterated the statement in an interview with the magazine Marianne, after publishing a 86‑page letter outlining a programme that calls for a revamp of public services, a social gold rule and tighter control of public deficits.

Cazeneuve, 63, noted that several other figures – including ex‑president François Hollande and euro‑deputy Raphaël Glucksmann – are also positioning themselves in the centre‑left space. He dismissed participation in a primary, instead favouring an open contest that would include candidates from across the political spectrum, from Jean‑Luc Mélenchon to Marine Le Pen.
