Bernard Cazeneuve Publishes Letter Ahead of 2027 French Presidential Bid

Former French prime minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced he will publish a "letter to the French" on Friday, 17 July, outlining a program that signals his move toward a candidacy in the 2027 presidential election. The letter, titled “Tenir les promesses de la France”, presents around thirty measures grouped into three pillars: protecting lives, restoring the state, and rebuilding sovereignty.

Cazeneuve, who founded the party La Convention after leaving the Socialist Party, criticises the current governance as “mal gouverné, mal représenté, mal considéré” and proposes reforms on pensions, a return to a seven‑year presidential term, justice, agriculture, education, artificial intelligence, purchasing power, debt, security, decentralisation and Europe. While he has not formally declared his candidacy, the publication of the letter is intended to start a dialogue with voters and could shape the early dynamics of the upcoming race.
