Le Pen cleared, leads polls for 2027 election
Overview
The French Court of Appeal’s July 2026 decision reduced Marine Le Pen’s ineligibility to fifteen months, a period that had already elapsed, restoring her right to stand in the 2027 presidential race despite her conviction for misusing EU funds. Polls released after the ruling consistently placed her in first position, with first‑round support measured at 34‑36 % and simulated second‑round victories over centre‑right candidate Édouard Philippe (around 52 % vs 48 %) and far‑left candidate Jean‑Luc Mélenchon (about 68 % vs 32 %).
Within the National Rally, party president Jordan Bardella reaffirmed his role as Le Pen’s deputy and potential prime‑ministerial candidate, while also highlighting a strategy to broaden the party’s electorate. At the same time, President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party filed a lawsuit accusing the RN of brand infringement for using the slogan “Pour la France – La Renaissance” on campaign material, claiming voter confusion.
Former prime minister Édouard Philippe’s campaign adjusted its rhetoric, portraying Le Pen’s platform as fiscally reckless and likening her policies to left‑wing interventions, particularly on pension reform. The legal reversal and the branding dispute have added new dimensions to an already contentious electoral landscape.
