Bernice Offei, veteran Ghanaian gospel singer, dies at 63
Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer Bernice Offei has died at the age of 63. Her former manager, Kwasi Ernest, revealed that Offei had been privately battling dementia for approximately four to five years prior to her death on September 12, 2026.
Ernest noted that the progressive illness significantly impacted Offei’s daily life and contributed to an incident where she became disoriented and unable to find her home. Following a private search by her family, she was located and taken to a medical facility, though her condition continued to decline.
In tributes, Minority Leader in Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin praised Offei as a significant figure in the gospel music community. He highlighted her versatility, noting she was a professional banker who also held an MPhil in Crop Science and an MSc in Information Technology. Offei was a recipient of Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards for her album, Life.
