Bernie Taupin announces first solo album in 39 years
Bernie Taupin, the longtime songwriting partner of Elton John, is releasing a new solo album titled ‘The Sea Has No Mercy’, scheduled for release on October 23. This marks his first solo album in 39 years, following 1987’s ‘Tribe’.
Unlike his previous works, Taupin has written and composed all tracks for this project himself. He described the album as a ‘late-life manifesto’ and his ‘most intimate’ offering, noting that the songs reflect his experiences as a 76-year-old. The inspiration for the project reportedly stemmed from writing his autobiography, ‘Scattershot’, and filming a retrospective documentary.
The album was recorded in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell and features the band The Tennessee Stone Cutters. Guest appearances include Brandi Carlile, Lee Ann Womack, and Taupin’s daughter, Georgey Devon Taupin, who performs on the track ‘One Hundred Ways’.
