Berrocal faces devastation following Niebla wildfire
The municipality of Berrocal faces a devastating aftermath following the Niebla wildfire, which has scorched nearly the entire municipal territory. Local authorities and residents are beginning to witness the physical reality of the destruction, characterized by blackened mountains, ash-covered banks of the Tinto River, and significant loss of livestock.
Ángel Luis Romero, the Mayor of Berrocal, described the scene as an “apocalypse,” noting that while professionals successfully saved the town itself, the surrounding landscape is unrecognizable. The mayor expressed deep concern regarding the long-term economic impact on the community, which relies heavily on forest and rural activities, including beekeeping and livestock farming.
As the immediate emergency subsides, the local government is calling for firm commitment from administrative bodies to support the recovery of the municipal economy and the restoration of the rural environment.
