Northern Cyprus officials condemn cancellation of international events

Political tensions have escalated in Northern Cyprus following the cancellation of several international cultural and sporting events. Officials in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have criticized efforts by the far-right ELAM party in the Republic of Cyprus to block activities such as the Nexus music festival and youth football training camps.

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated that the community will not be forced into isolation and will continue to strengthen international ties. Similarly, UBP Member of Parliament Hasan Taçoy called for a unified political front to combat what he described as unjust embargoes and isolations, urging President Tufan Erhürman to support parliamentary efforts on international platforms.

In a separate domestic development, Prime Minister Üstel announced that the Cabinet is processing three legislative bills aimed at improving the personal rights and professional status of Security Forces personnel, addressing long-standing grievances regarding staff cadres and service recognition.
