Betty Bromage breaks Guinness World Record for wing walking at 97

Betty Bromage, a 97-year-old British woman, has broken her own Guinness World Record to become the oldest female wing walker. The stunt, performed at RFC Rendcomb Airfield, involved her being secured to the wing of a biplane as it completed maneuvers, including loops and barrel rolls, at speeds of up to 150 mph.

Bromage, a former nurse, performed the feat to raise funds for the stroke unit at Cheltenham General Hospital, where she received care following a stroke in 2025. Despite experiencing challenges with her vision and speech due to the stroke, she expressed a strong desire to remain active, stating, "I'd just get bored of life otherwise."

This marks her sixth wing walking attempt since she first began the sport at age 87. She noted that while getting onto the wing is a physical challenge due to her stature, she felt no fear during the flight, remarking, "At 97, what is there to be afraid of?"
