Betty Bromage wing walking world record

Overview

Betty Bromage, a 97-year-old British woman, broke her own Guinness World Record for being the oldest female wing walker. Performing at RFC Rendcomb Airfield on August 4, she was secured to a biplane that executed maneuvers including loops and barrel rolls at speeds reaching 150 mph. During the feat, she remained attached to the aircraft for at least five minutes, which included the takeoff and landing phases.

A former nurse, Bromage undertook the stunt to raise funds for the stroke unit and vascular neurology department at Cheltenham General Hospital, the facility where she received treatment following a stroke in August 2025.

This was her sixth wing walking attempt since beginning the sport at age 87. Having previously set a record at age 93 in 2022, Bromage expressed a commitment to remaining active despite the physical challenges, including language difficulties, resulting from her stroke. She noted that her motivation was to continue pursuing her dreams and to avoid boredom caused by age-related limitations, such as declining vision and an inability to drive. Bromage stated that she does not feel nervous about the activity and has expressed interest in attempting the feat again in the future.
