Betty Bromage breaks wing walking world record at age 97

Betty Bromage, a 97-year-old British woman from Cheltenham, has broken her own Guinness World Record for being the oldest woman to perform wing walking. The extreme sport involves being secured to the exterior wing of an aircraft during flight.

During the feat, which took place on August 4, Bromage remained attached to a biplane for at least five minutes, enduring maneuvers such as loops and rolls. She first established this record at age 93 and has been practicing the sport since she was 87.

The flight served a charitable purpose, as Bromage raised funds for the vascular neurology department at Cheltenham General Hospital. She chose to support the facility that provided care following a stroke she suffered in August 2025. Despite the health setback, which she noted has slightly affected her speech, Bromage expressed a desire to remain active and continue pursuing challenges.
